There is not much that is better than a family walk on a sunny winter’s day in a beautiful natural location…
Arthur’s Seat is one of Edinburgh’s most beautiful landmarks. The craggy summit hosts stunning views of Edinburgh, and beyond in all directions, and the extensive parkland surrounding it is a breath of calm from the busy city below. One of the most notable aspects of Arthur’s Seat is that it is an extinct volcano! you are literally walking on solid lava. Rocks have been dated at 335 million years old, and the lava slopes are dipped in mythology, local legend, and of course natural beauty. Robert Louis Stevenson described the area as “a hill for magnitude, a mountain in virtue of its bold design”
There are many different walks you can wander around the area, and the summit itself is a fairly easy peak to climb! Check out the different routes you can take on Geowalks.
