Feathers & Flying: A S&D Falconry Experience

We have been waiting for this excitedly since Valentine’s day, and finally the day is here! We ramble our way across a grassy, windswept field to find ourselves being drawn in my the cries and squawks from our impatient flyers…

“S&D Falconry offer a flock of avian experiences at locations across Warwickshire. The centre is home to falcons, owls and hawks, some of whom are available to act as ring bearers for weddings. The business arranges falconry sessions and owl walks, and also offers wildlife photography courses.” [source]

Our swoop down to the grounds of Stratford Manor to meet a variety of birds of prey with S&D Falconry was a fantastic experience.
Our two-hour session allowed us to encounter five birds of prey, including: a Barn Owl, a Harris Hawk, a Great Horned Owl, a Peregrine Falcon, and a Kestrel. During our session we handled the birds, flew them to our gloves, watched as they demonstrated incredible flying feats, and learned all about the history of the birds from falconers, Stephen and Debbie. I really enjoyed how knowledgeable both owners were, and the amount of care for their birds was clearly validated in their handling. It was a fascinating dip into a world I did not know very much about, and I am really grateful for this learning journey.
Happy Valentine’s Day Stuart
